ABOUT US

First Kaska is the economic development corporation of the Liard First Nation. Located in Watson Lake, Yukon, First Kaska provides a range of construction, transportation and energy services to the public and private sector. Its mandate is to stimulate and sustain the local economy, provide jobs and training to Liard First Nations members, and encourage local investment in Watson Lake. First Kaska currently operates seven divisions. Its recent purchase of the assets of Heartland Timber Homes has opened up a new line of business under the Construction portfolio. In 2022, First Kaska will construct 15 timber homes for Liard First Nation. In 2023, it will be ready to build and deliver timber homes to new First Nations customers across Canada.

ROLE

  • Supervising, coordinating, and scheduling the daily activities of construction
    trades-people
  • Coordinating work activities with subcontractors
  • Establishing methods to meet work schedules and coordinating work activities with other departments/subcontractors/supervisors/managers
  • Resolving work problems and recommending measures to improve productivity and product quality
  • Preparing estimates for planned construction activities and obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Ordering materials and supplies
  • Training or arranging for the training of workers in job duties, safety procedures and company policies
  • Ensuring standards for safe working conditions are observed
  • Recommending personnel actions such as hirings and promotions
  • Preparing schedules, work progress, production and other reports

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 10 years’ experience in construction, ideally in residential buildings/log homes
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a Class 5 Drivers License and an in-house operator’s certificate.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, all appropriate company required certificates and complete related courses as required.
